Mind Your Language

                        Mind Your Language

Students of grades 6  have learnt  the correct pronunciation of words in British English during their English lab activity and how people from Spain, Italy,India and France speak English with different accents during Listening skills lessons in the  ICT lab. They did a  research  about the use of Hindi, French, Italian and Spanish words used in English. The children also made a dictionary with these words after their research about the Foreign  origin words. This learning activity culminated with a drama in the assembly. The Blair Peach Primary School children had a look at our dictionary and completed a word origin worksheet based on it. The same activity of identifying the etymology of the words were repeated for our in house children (Grade 8 & 9). The activity being a competition between  both the grades compelled them to give  their best. They faired well  with the team spirit pumping up their adrenaline, for a box of chocolates, Guess what? it was a tie! Both the grades scored 21 points.
Grade 7 and  8 were the audience for our Culmination drama of 'Mind your language' Students  enacted a play with characters from different countries speaking English using their own accents in the play. The skit was not only hilarious but it struck in a subtle way that language connects the world through its vanishing  boundaries.
